The park’s ‘garden railway’ addition was first mooted in 2011, and an interim layout was built to gauge interest and acquire experience with these trains. During the off-season, the Garden Railway Committee has been hard at work, and hopefully, that Garden Railway will be able to open for public viewing later this season.
Confederation Park’s northern end is home to the Burnaby Central Railway. Going north on Willingdon Avenue from Hastings Street is the quickest way to find Confederation Park. 120 North Willingdon, city of Burnaby roughly 5 blocks north of Hastings Street, is the exact address. On weekends and holidays, the railway is open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Miniature trains are also unavailable all year, usually only from May to October.
The trains and railway tracks were built and maintained by the British Columbia Society of Model Engineers. They perform an excellent job. People are generally unable to distinguish between their steam and diesel trains and those shown on Thomas the Train.
At the Burnaby Central Railway, you can see people with various hair colors, including brown, black, red, grey, and even blue. That means that you can still enjoy train rides no matter who you are or how old you are.
A single riding ticket costs $4.50. (Good for one 10-15 minute ride.) $40.00 Passes for 10 rides The ten-ride pass is a great price for frequent park visitors, and it has no expiration date so that you can use your unused rides on your next visit. Children under the age of 36 months (3 years) are free to ride!
Our newly built concession building is where you get your ride tokens, souvenirs, food, and beverages. The concession is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on public running days. We take Debit, Visa, Mastercard, and Cash for your convenience.
